The students of St. Andrew Primary are now enjoying the use of improved toilet facilities and a beautified environ following major renovation work by Petrojam Limited.
The renovation activities which were undertaken as Petrojam’s 2015 Labour Day activities included restorative work to the students’ restrooms and the school’s Guard House, the installation of two water tanks, painting, planting of flowers and general beautification of the school environment.
Principal of St. Andrew Primary, Beverley Haase is pleased with the repairs.
“We really appreciate this gesture, especially with the donation of the two new tanks and the students’ bathroom facilities which were badly in need of repairs. This has definitely lifted the spirit of both staff and students,” she states.
Already, the school has begun to utilize the enhanced facilities. “Since the renovation work, the school has hosted a “Student vs Teachers Match” on the netball court which was also marked out according to the specified dimensions by Petrojam volunteers. “Before, we were not able to even able to play netball on the court; now we can host matches,” the St. Andrew Primary Principal quips.
The staff of St. Andrew Primary school is doing everything possible to see to the upkeep of the facility. The students have made care of the plants and the enhanced bathroom facilities their personal responsibility. Brianna Thompson of Grade 1 is one such student. “We appreciate the help as the place looks really different. We will do our best to keep it clean,” Brianna promises.
Grade six teacher, Clement Harris says the teachers will also doing be doing their part in ensuring that the students follow through on their promise. “Different classes have been assigned daily duties to water the plants and overall we have increased monitoring of the students use and are of the toilet facilities, “
Pleased with the outcome of the activity, General Manager of Petrojam, Howard Mollison notes, “the advancement of education for the nation’s youth is at the core of the company’s corporate social responsibility programme. We are happy for every moment that we get to positively impact the life of a child.”
“It was really good to see everyone- staff, students, parents and Petrojam employees joining hands to give the school this well-needed facelift. It shows just what can be accomplished through teamwork and partnership,” he continued.
