Efforts by the Jamaica National Children’s Home to improve the literacy and numeracy levels of underachieving wards in its care, were recently boosted through a donation of $60,000 from Petrojam to cover instructor expenses for its Summer Intervention Programme in Remedial Education. The programme, which continues into September, aims to provide additional support to some fifteen students who have been performing below grade level at their respective institutions. Seven of these students were recently placed at the JNCH from Places of Safety. Most of them have been out of school for approximately two years.
